Realidades e ideologías de la modernidad en la República Dominicana del siglo XX

This article is presented as a first approach to Dominican modernity based on the heuristic concept of "fragmented modernity". It studies the Latin-American debate on modernity and tries to apply its premises to the social development achieved in the Dominican Republic. Concentrating on the last decades of the XX Dominican Century, it particularly analyzes two symbolic spheres with its contradictions and ambiguities: the material culture and social relations.
