esociales@bono.edu.doAbstract
The inclusion of the Dominican Republic in the different regional common markets in Latin America is hailed by the author as a long needed Iiberation from the unilateral dependence of this country on the U.S. market and the U.S. foreign policy (as affecting the access to that market). But she also sees that the inevitable readjustment process of the national economy, which goes along with this, weighs heavily above all upon the poor. She sees the cybernetic park project positively: as a free zone outpost which doesn't just exploit cheap labor, but also serves to transfer technology.
