El carácter funcional de las décimas populares

The author questions the traditional aesthetical appraisal of the popular genre of the "décimas" (stanzas of ten octosyllabic lines). Certain more refined artistic objectives are absent in a genre which seeks to capture a given moment in the daily life of the country dwellers (campesinos) of the Dominican Republic driven aboye all by the playful motívation of amusement. This is where the aesthetic value of the "décimas" should be sought.
