Abstract

Topics such as related deaths, violence and juvenile crime in Dominican
Republic are addressed, with the purpose of contributing to a better
understanding of the subject. Studying national and international and
with statistical analysis of recent literature, we pretend to demonstrate
the main ways of external deaths in young Dominicans are the violent
deaths (homicides and suicides), and macro-variables - structural and
institutional, as well as the phenomenon of socialization with conjuncture
factors (drugs and weaponsfire) directly affect the appearance of
violence and youth crime. Furthermore, it discusses the results of the
study of risk factors of 2010, Brea & Cabral, conducted with a sample
in the comparison of two groups of 100 young people. In both forms of
approach (macro and micro-social) confirmed that 56% of youth deaths
are violent external source; a usual impact of factors closely linked to the
socioeconomic unfavorable conditions; the consequent hopelessness
(perception of rounding) by lack of opportunities in general and low selfesteem
in young people involved. He watched as it penetrates relatively
easy into drug trafficking, together with the firearms, resources as
mechanisms for economic survival in impoverished youth sectors and of
social exclusion. However, instead of comprehensive policies and social
programs implemented massively and timely due to preventive proven
effectiveness, it insists increasingly resorting to policies that increase
repressive and punitive, therefore doomed to fail.
