Dominican Migration to Switzerland: A Few Elements

Abstract

Dominican migration to Switzerland is a recent development. It began in the 1980’s and today, according to official records, around 8,000 Dominicans live in Switzerland, making Dominicans in Switzerland the third largest group of the Dominican diaspora in Europe. From an anthropological viewpoint, this article analyzes the particulars of this migratory process, identifying the factors that cause this migration and their implications. This work is an original contribution to the scarce although growing literature on current day migration from Latin American to Europe, and to Switzerland in particular.
