Abstract
One characteristic of contemporary migration processes is the growing presence of women migrants seeking work. The survey by OIM/FLACSO (2004) on Haitian immigrants estimated that 22.4% of Haitian migrant women in the country resided primarily in the Distrito Nacional/Santo Domingo, Santiago and the North while 16.1% of Haitian migrant women are employed in domestic service. This study seeks to understand the characteristics and the situation of Haitian immigrant women employed in domestic service in the cities of Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, and Dajabón; through a deep analysis of these women`s experiences during the migratory process.
