Health and earthquake in Haiti
Abstract
This article makes a conceptual revision of methods to analyze population
health in order to study Haitian case. In the light of available information,
the author analyzes some indicators about Haitian health situation before
earthquake and makes a reflection about main challenges in the short and
medium term that reconstruction process of Haiti has to face, in health field.
To conclude, he makes an approximation to actual situation, form the point of
view of opportunities that reconstruction process presents, in order to set out,
and eventually overcome, some of health systems limitations. He concludes
with an invitation to fortify Haitian population’s capacities and opportunities
to redefine and lead this health construction, considering its own historical
experiences, its culture and expectations as a society.
