Abstract

In Latin America, the promotors of a decolonial shift believe that to defend original cultures it is necessary to decolonize the Ibero-American thought, that is, to make this thought not be «Western, modern, European, colonial, capitalist, liberal, patriarchal, Christian, white coloured», a position which is xenophobic and identic to that of the European and North American extreme right.  They commit various errors: 1) they assume that there is «only one Western thought», 2) they put together very different indigenous cultures as if they all were the same; 3) they use Western categories, languages, institutions and methodologies which they are supposed to question; 4) they reject the idea of universality, but they accept similar generalizations like «epistemologies of the South», «Latin America», «Indigenous peoples», «women»; and 5) they kill the discourse of universal fraternity and human rights. It is much better to work for the universal fraternity from America, in place of creating an imaginary enemy in order to find their own identity.
