Abstract
Although the 26th of June the mapping of the human genome was announced with a lot of fanfare, one still has a long way to go in understanding the structure of the genome enough so as to help biomedical research concretely. True is that the project has been carried out with great speed. The hurry has to do with positioning oneself advantageously in the competition fer lucrative patents. For us in the third world this "obsession" might mean, however, the neglecting of those health areas moreurgent.
